Insomniacs: The Podcast
64: The Salem Witch Trials
In this episode, we're diving into one of the darkest and most infamous chapters in American history—the Salem Witch Trials. As we embrace spooky season, it’s time to explore the terrifying blend of mass hysteria, wrongful accusations, and the grim fates of those caught in the frenzy.
This story takes us to 1692 Salem, Massachusetts, where a few young girls’ strange behavior set off a wildfire of accusations, leading to the executions of 20 innocent people. What caused this mass hysteria? Was it political, social, or something more sinister? We’ll also explore the hauntings that allegedly linger in the town to this day, from Giles Corey’s curse to the restless spirits that roam Salem’s historic sites.
It’s a story of fear, mystery, curses, and maybe even a ghost or two. You won’t want to miss this one as we dig into the history and legacy of the Salem Witch Trials.
Stay spooky. Stay Safe. And sweet dreams!
